Blood tests can now be done at home with your mobile phone

2022/06/09

Two important tests that previously required a visit to a medical clinic have now received CE certification to be carried out at home using the patient’s own mobile camera and an AI app. FindOut Diagnostic is the company behind the invention and will soon launch the blood tests CRP and HbA1c, two widely used tests in healthcare.

The need for at-home testing has been very high during the Covid pandemic and many people have become accustomed to finger pricking or other home testing. Digitalization with video meetings with doctors is also a very important part of the future of healthcare, but where people have often had problems with not being able to carry out testing at home. One of the most common and important blood tests is CRP (C-Reactive Protein) to check if a patient has a serious bacterial infection is only available in health clinics. Recently, CRP testing at home was approved using an AI app that can read the test and provide an accurate value that the doctor can access directly via secure connection via BankID.

– We have spent a lot of time and money to realize this solution and finally we have got the product CE certified to be launched throughout the EU. Even before approval, we have many healthcare providers and pharmacy chains wanting this solution to follow up their patients. It is a great relief for both the healthcare provider and the patient to be able to do the testing in their home,” says Denise Luxenburg Stuifbergen, CEO and co-founder of FindOut Diagnostic.

In the last capital round, Kamjar Hajabdolahi’s BLQ Invest joined and since the start the company has been backed by Add Health Media (now Curus), VNTRS and business angels including entrepreneur Alexander Stendahl.

– I have been personally involved in the company and have received so much positive feedback from investors, healthcare providers and patients along the way who are longing for this solution. After this approval, I see FindOut becoming a new Swedish unicorn as the solution can now be used directly throughout the EU. The demand for this service is very high and growing as digital healthcare visits continue. Both the healthcare provider and the patient want as much care as possible to be carried out at home, and one piece of the puzzle is the blood tests that FindOut now has a solution for, says Johan Bloom, CEO of the investment company Curus.

In addition to CRP, FindOut has also received CE certification for its HbA1c blood test, which measures long-term blood glucose and is an important measure of whether a person is developing diabetes. The test is important for screening and identifying patients at risk of pre-diabetes or who have already developed type 2 diabetes.
